Project Management

Effective tech project management: Best Tools

Margo Kosnik

IT project management requires a lot of organization. If you are a tech manager, you know well that one of your most important responsibilities is to ensure the efficiency of your project. A sheet of paper or notes on the calendar may not be sufficient nowadays. However, a modern tool for project management can really help to keep the project on track.

When browsing the web, you will notice that there is a very large variety of these kinds of tools available. However, the problem comes when it’s time to make a decision.  It is sometimes hard to make an informative decision when you are surrounded by too many options. You are wondering which functionalities you will need and what price range you should consider. It’s natural. I once faced a similar dilemma.

Recently, I have tested a lot of project management tools, and to be honest, each of them has something worthy of attention. Considering my personal experience, I would like to help you with making a choice. I selected 7, in my opinion, of the best tools available which are worth a try. Of course, this is my subjective decision. However, I hope that this quick review will help to avoid wasting time to verify the suitability of each product.

My list includes both paid and free versions. Some of them are certainly well-known, but some may be new to you. I tried to keep it simple and prepared a rather short and specific analysis. Here is my list of the 7 best project management tools.

Effective management

1. Jira

A tool for project management and bug tracking created by Atlassian. This is a pretty popular software, often used in the IT industry. Honestly? My favorite!

Main functionalities:

  • verification of documents, data flow, and employee tasks,
  • task planning, presenting new ideas, and sharing knowledge with other team members,
  • sharing documents and information,
  • track status of tasks and projects.

Pricing: $1,10 – $10 per user monthly

2. ProofHub

It is a saas based project management software that fits perfectly in every work culture. It solves the four major challenges that every team faces in their projects – planning, collaboration, organization, and delivering them on time.

Main functionalities:

  • reporting and tracking project progress,
  • file storage,
  • delegating tasks,
  • online discussions and chats.

Pricing: $45 – $89 monthly (unlimited users)

3. Basecamp

It is a tool, which can help you with solving the critical problems that every growing business deals with. In other words, it is a system to help stay on top of it all, to keep people on the same page, organize and share information, discuss, make, and nail down decisions.

Main functionalities:

  • to-do lists,
  • messages board,
  • schedules,
  • documents and files storage,
  • group chat,

Pricing: $99 per month (unlimited users)

4. Trello

And finally, one of the easiest tools available. If you care about simplicity and friendly management, then this tool may be suitable for you. It offers slightly less functionality than the previous ones, so if your project is not complicated, I recommend to use Trello.

Main functionalities:

  • planning and assigning tasks,
  • controlling the course of the project,
  • prioritization of tasks,
  • file sharing and storage of documents.

Pricing: $9,99 – $20,83 per user monthly (basic version for free)

Trello

5. Scoro

This tool provides an end-to-end business management solution that allows professional and creative services to control their entire workflow from one place. It helps to streamline work and eliminate routine tasks to ensure a business runs as smoothly and efficiently as possible.

Main functionalities:

  • calendaring,
  • task and project management,
  • quoting and billing,
  • real-time dashboard,
  • enterprise-level reporting.

Pricing: €19‎- € 49‎ per user monthly

6. Workzone

A tool that is promoted as a powerful and easy to use software and is user- friendly for companies of all sizes. One of the most significant advantages of Workzone is the chance to increase the productivity of managing your projects.

Main functionalities:

  • tracking project status,
  • project visualization,
  • managing tasks, requests, and meetings,
  • automation of recurring processes.

Pricing: for individual arrangements

7. Asana

It helps teams organize and manage all of their work, from small projects to strategic initiatives. Thanks to this tool, you can control your project goals, tasks, and stimulate business growth.

Main functionalities:

  • monitoring the progress of tasks,
  • team-work management,
  • notification of project updates,
  • meeting planning, process control and threats.

Pricing: $9,99 – $19,99 per user monthly
